Meet the Gran Bwa Heritage Art Team

Henry S. Vizcarra Borja (Mestre Carvão)

 Vice President & Capoeira Cultural Advisor


Henry S. Vizcarra Borja, known in the capoeira world as Mestre Carvão, serves as vice president of Gran Bwa Heritage Art. He brings respected leadership, deep Capoeira knowledge, and valuable cultural experience to the organization.

As a dedicated Mestre, he supports the growth of Afro-Brazilian arts, mentorship, discipline, and community development. His leadership helps preserve Capoeira traditions while expanding opportunities for youth and adults to experience movement, culture, and empowerment.

Djhondel Gay (Monitor Manganga)

 President & Founder


Born and raised in Haiti, Djhondel Gay, known in Capoeira as Monitor Mangangá, is the visionary founder of Gran Bwa Heritage Art. With a background in martial arts, capoeira, cultural leadership, and community empowerment, he is dedicated to creating programs that build discipline, confidence, wellness, and opportunity for youth and underserved communities.

As a Capoeira instructor and mentor, he uses movement, music, and tradition to inspire leadership, resilience, and personal growth. Djhondel leads the organization with passion, strength, and a commitment to uplifting others through culture and service 

Lamartine Alvarez

 Treasurer


Lamartine Alvarez serves as treasurer of Gran Bwa Heritage Art, providing financial oversight, accountability, and stewardship for the organization. As a pastor and respected business owner in Nashville, Tennessee, he brings valuable leadership experience, integrity, and community connection to the team.

As the owner of a Haitian restaurant, Lamartine understands entrepreneurship, budgeting, and the importance of serving the community. His role helps ensure the organization operates responsibly and remains positioned for sustainable growth and impact.

Michael Lin (Microfone)

 

Secretary


Michael Lin, known in Capoeira as Microfone, serves as Secretary of Gran Bwa Heritage Art. He is responsible for maintaining organizational records, meeting minutes, communications, and administrative coordination that help keep the organization structured and effective.

With a connection to Capoeira culture and community, Michael brings dedication, teamwork, and positive energy to the leadership team. His role supports the organization’s continued growth, organization, and professional operations.

Alita Brielle Gay

 

Alita Brielle Gay leads creative expression programs focused on poetry, spoken word, voice development, and communication skills. She is passionate about helping youth and adults discover their voice, build confidence, and use words as tools for healing, leadership, and personal growth. 

Meet our Garden & Earth Guides

Malcolm Bradfield

 

Malcolm Bradfield serves as the Garden & Earth Guide for Gran Bwa Heritage Art, leading programs focused on gardening, environmental awareness, and connection to the land. He helps participants learn practical skills in planting, growing food, caring for the earth, and understanding the healing value of nature.

With a passion for sustainability and community wellness, Malcolm teaches that working with the soil builds patience, discipline, responsibility, and self-reliance. His leadership supports the organization’s mission of promoting health, cultural knowledge, and holistic growth through hands-on experiences with the earth.
